On November 8, the Children's University offered another exciting session: Prof. Dr. Katharina Schauberger, Professor of Global Economics at THI Business School, gave a lecture titled “Who makes my sneakers? A look into the world of child labour - backgrounds and solutions.”

In her lecture, Prof. Dr. Schauberger first introduced the children to the topic of child labour using a real example from shoe production in Asia. The children then discussed what exactly is meant by “child labour”. They also learned in which products, industries and countries child labour is most prevalent. Using an economic model, the young participants were able to understand that poverty is the main driver of child labour.

What stood out most was the great engagement of the young audience: they asked many questions, shared their own ideas, and discussed passionately what measures could help eliminate child labor in the long term. The event not only offered deep insights into a complex topic, but also demonstrated the importance of raising awareness of such topics among young people.
