No moss, no action?

At the Neuburg Sustainability Talks on Tuesday, the 4th of June, experts will discuss whether and how climate-friendly building materials can be obtained from so-called paludicultures, the agricultural and forestry use of wet raised bogs and fens.

In its more optimistic future scenarios for controllable global warming, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change cannot do without increased removal of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. In the Donaumoos there are very good opportunities for this with the rewetting of moors. However, to make this economically attractive for agriculture and to achieve positive side effects, the subsequent utilization of the land must be ecologically and economically sensible.

Prof Dr. Oliver Blask from Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt, Dr Johann Habermeyer, second mayor of the town of Neuburg, part-time farmer and agricultural scientist with a doctorate, Gerhard Grande from the Donaumoos-Zweckverband and journalist Swantje Furtak will discuss whether paludicultures are suitable for this purpose and can be used as a climate-friendly building material.

The event will take place on Tuesday 4 June from 18:30 to 20:00 in room CN004 on the THI campus in Neuburg. The moderator will be Bernhard Mahler, press spokesman for the city of Neuburg.
